Overview

This is a replacement post for a full-time Consultant working in North Durham Mental Health Team. North Durham Community Mental Health Team serves Adults aged 18 upwards who present with a mental illness. The team provides statutory Care Act assessments alongside mental health assessment and works in partnership with Durham County Council. The service operates Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00 with flexibility to see patients from 08:00 to 18:00. The team is based at Chester Le Street Health Centre, with patient contacts at base and in the local community. The caseload covers the North Durham Area (Chester Le Street, Stanley and Consett) with 3 WTE Consultants for the three areas. The Trust has strong links with primary care and the local community/voluntary sector.The post is part of a large specialist mental health and learning disabilities trust; psychiatrists are essential contributors to our teams and the Medical Directorate aims to improve medical workforce recruitment and retention. This post is within Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust.Responsibilities

Provide committed, proactive and responsible leadership within the team.Attend the Daily Huddle and daily decision meetings to discuss patient care, management plans and safety of patients.Conduct assessments for new patients; follow up and review existing patients; provide diagnoses and treatment plans.Ensure evidence-based prescribing and monitoring of pharmacological treatment and ECT as appropriate.Offer daily consultation and advice to the team and review patients as required.Act as Responsible Clinician for patients on a Community Treatment Order; complete required documentation and timely reviews; renew RC approval according to procedures.Undertake Mental Health Act Assessments in the community and participate in the day on-call rota.Provide supervision to postgraduate medical staff and non-medical prescribers within the team.Liaise with other community and in-patient teams and Consultants; participate in out-of-hours on-call rota.About us
