Consultant in Stroke MedicineThe Great Western Hospital is pleased to offer the opportunity to Stroke Medicine Consultants to join the existing team. We welcome applicants from Consultants who have experience in Stroke Medicine, either from a GIM, Stroke or Neurology background. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing team to contribute to improving stroke pathways and SSNAP performance, with a focus on providing a first class service where patients and their relatives come first.The Stroke/Neurology team is located in the Betjeman Centre, on the ground floor of GWH. This houses the department''s outpatient clinic rooms, day hospital, therapy centre and office space for the Consultant team and secretarial support. Rehabilitation for Stroke is provided by SWICC in a separate building on site at GWH.Main duties of the job: the duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed to meet service needs.Clinical Duties
Multidisciplinary team working is a key component, including regular MDT discussions with colleaguesProviding evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary settingContinuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support)Development of sub-specialty interests that fit in with Division needs and the strategic direction of the TrustResponsibilities for teaching, examination and accreditation duties and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activitiesProvision of cover for Consultant colleagues'' periods of leave in accordance with Trust policyParticipation in clinical audit and continuing medical educationConducting duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstancesParticipation in an out-of-hours consultant rota, as detailed in the job planDetail other responsibilities such as the patients under the care of the successful candidate
Management and Leadership
Support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management TeamContribute to leadership and development of services under the direction of the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director, in line with Trust business plansEnsure effective communication and involvement of staff across the DivisionWork in partnership with colleagues in other Divisions within the TrustAssist in cost-effective utilisation of resources within budgetsWork within the Trust framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including development of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders and financial proceduresUndertake direct supervision of junior colleagues and participate in teaching programmesUndertake investigations and report writing for incidents and participate in clinical risk managementAppointed candidates will embody the STAR values and use NHS Constitution principles to guide decisionsFurther details can be found on the attached JD
