Consultant in Respiratory Medicine (TB/Asthma)

We are seeking a dynamic Respiratory consultant to fill this replacement post at the Leeds TBand difficult asthma services at St Jamess University Hospital. The appointees will become key members of a dedicated and highly experienced multidisciplinary team. The Leeds Difficult Asthma service provides tertiary and secondary care for patients with asthma. The TB service offer an integrated service including diagnosis and treatment of active TB and latent TB infection and screening for people who have been in contact with TB.The job is a full-time post comprising of ten programmed activities, with supervision of the resident doctors and specialist nurses. There will also be an on-call commitment to cover the Respiratory medicine medical rota on a 1:12 basis, contribute to the Acute Medicine rota 1:109 and contribute 0.7PA to workflexibly to support General Internal Medicine.The department of Respiratory Medicine has undergone significant modernisation over recent years and remains a centre for clinical and educational excellence. Inpatient services are provided in Gledhow Wing at St Jamess Hospital. This includes three Respiratory wards, an NIV /Weaning unit, a dedicated CF ward, a procedures room, Sleep services and a Nurse-led day unit. There are cross city outpatient facilities including a dedicated chest clinic at Leeds General Infirmary. The unit has a strong commitment to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research.Main duties of the job

The appointee must hold the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, or equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training in Respiratory Medicine. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.Shortlisted candidates are encouraged to visit by prior appointment. This post is a full time (10 PA) post. The appointee will work at St Jamess University Teaching Hospital, where there will be inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.There is a commitment to acute Respiratory on call on a 1:12 and Acute Medicine on call 1:109. The applicant should be committed to teaching and research.15 whole time equivalent consultant respiratory physicians provide a cross-city inpatient and outpatient service. Current sub-specialty interests among the physicians include lung cancer, pleural disease, interstitial lung disease, difficult asthma, tuberculosis, sleep disordered breathing and non invasive ventilation, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, PCD, COPD and alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency.The successful candidate would join the other Respiratory Consultant, Infectious Diseases Consultant and Paediatrician in the team. Management, Interpersonal Skills and Other Requirements

Understanding of current issues in the NHS.Well organised and skilled in good time management.Effective interpersonal skills.Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:- CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview). Portfolio Pathway (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process. Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application.Attendance at recognised management course.Experience

Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Respiratory Medicine with special interest in TB and Asthma.Specifically, he/she must demonstrate higher training in Respiratory Medicine and General Medicine.Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.Qualifications

MB BS or equivalent qualification. MRCP or equivalent qualification. Certificate of completion of Specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine or CESR or equivalent.Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.Eligibility to work in the UK.Is up to date and fit to practise safely.Training, Research, Teaching and Audit
