Consultant in Palliative MedicinePermanent, Part Time 7.5 PAs. We are seeking a Part Time hospital consultant in Palliative Medicine based at University College Hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team - 7.5PAs to commence as soon as possible. This post sits within the Camden, Islington ELiPSe and UCLH Palliative Care Service.Doctors on the specialist register for SPC or ST trainees in the final 6 months of their training are welcome to apply. There are on call duties aligned to this post which cover both the hospital and community services.Medical consultants within the Service work across all hospital sites within UCLH NHS foundation trust but each have their main clinical and strategic area which they cover (e.g. haematology, oncology, non-malignant). In addition to clinical care, each are closely involved with strategic development and service improvement, as well as the advancement of relationships with key colleagues. The aims of the post are to work with the multidisciplinary team to provide an efficient and responsive advisory clinical service to the hospital patients requiring supportive and palliative care; the post holder will join a team of consultants to develop relationships and improve the care of patients and provide cross clinical cover within other areas of the specialist palliative care service (including the South Camden and Islington palliative care team). This is a part time substantive consultant role of 7.5 PAs. All DCC are within the hospital setting.You will be part of a busy proactive and innovative multidisciplinary team providing excellent care to patients and relatives. The Camden, Islington ELiPSe and UCLH Palliative Care Service is a well-established specialist palliative care service under CNWL NHS trust that has gained recognition for its innovative, integrated and comprehensive care provision. The service delivers a Specialist Palliative Care (SPC) Service throughout University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), and within the local communities of South Camden, North East Westminster and Islington. It has a 7 day a week 9am-8pm visiting on call service to these areas. The service has a robust programme of service improvement, audit and education and meets regularly to develop and deliver these. The service works closely with primary care and other specialist palliative care providers at Whittington Health, Royal Free Hospital, St John’s Hospice, North London Hospice and St Joseph’s Hospice and is a member of the North Central and North East London Palliative Care reference group, PallE8, and the UCL Palliative Care Research Consortium. It is a training unit for specialty registrars.The post holder will be expected to:Provide clinical care to patients and those important to them within South Camden, and Islington (and NE Westminster). The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and other colleagues in the team, as well as colleagues within the wider service and throughout the Trust, and will liaise with professionals within the community (GPs, Community Nursing and other specialist Teams such as Respiratory, Learning difficulties, Heart Failure, Dementia, etc), and within St Pancras Hospital (St Pancras Rehabilitation Unit, Camden Virtual ward) as well as neighbouring hospitals as needed.Provide clinical cross cover for SPC consultants in the service who work in UCLH as needed.Work closely with the clinical lead for the service, as well as the leads for the community and hospital team.Represent Palliative Care at relevant clinical and strategic meetings (e.g. NCL Specialist Palliative Care provider group, PallE8, GP Multidisciplinary meetings, Cross community meetings).Attend and contribute to the community specialist palliative care MDT meeting each week.Provide clinical supervision and educational supervision to trainees working within the team, as well as educational support and teaching to members of the nursing team undertaking advanced practice (e.g. non-medical prescribing, physical assessment) and to visitors to the team.Hospital responsibilities:Provide clinical care to patients within UCLH. The post holder will work closely with the inpatient lead for this team, Dr Jane Neerkin, and inpatient lead clinical nurse specialist, Emily Anderson.Support Clinical Nurse Specialists and other colleagues in the team, as well as other colleagues within the wider service and throughout the Trust, liaising with professionals in the community as needed (GPs, community palliative care teams and community nurses).Work closely with the clinical lead for the service, Dr Rasha Al-Qurainy, as well as the leads for the surgery and cancer, medicine, and specialist hospital boards.Represent Palliative Care at relevant clinical and strategic meetings within the hospital.Share clinical leadership with colleagues within the UCLH Palliative Care Team depending on demand.Actively contribute to the UCLH Supportive, Palliative and End of Life Care Strategy 2024-2028 agenda, working closely with relevant clinicians to optimise patient care, communication and use of hospital beds.This advert closes on Monday 1 Sep ..... full job details .....
