Construction Manager

  • Location: Raynesway, Derby DE21 7BG
  • Job Family: Construction Management
  • Reports To: Senior / Project Manager


Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced, driven, and safety-conscious Construction Manager to lead, plan, and deliver large-scale site activities (projects typically up to -50m). You will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team to safely and sustainably deliver construction works to programme, cost, and quality standards, while fostering an environment where your team can thrive and succeed.



Key Responsibilities



1. Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm and keep up to date with legislative changes.
  • Take responsibility for the safety and welfare of the general public, site employees, and the supply chain.
  • Write, review, and accept subcontractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Carry out periodic Safety & Environmental Tours and promote site observation and safety initiatives.
  • Drive behavioural safety, compliance, and reinforce core safety rules across the site.


2. Project Delivery & Operations

  • Plan, resource, and manage execution to schedule, ensuring operational milestones reflect master schedules and customer expectations.
  • Review, monitor, and improve construction performance using productivity and project controls techniques (including Short Interval Control).
  • Complete build ability assessments from first-hand experience and implement technical drawings/information into practical delivery.
  • Manage subcontractors, monitoring attendance and progress while providing direct instructions and contractual support.


3. Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide strong management and leadership to inspire a multi-disciplinary team (including Site Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, and Function Leads).
  • Develop high-performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent, and assist with training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Produce clear operational plans for the team to achieve project goals and aspirations.


4. Commercial, Quality & Governance

  • Take financial ownership of budgets for designated project elements, ensuring cost-effective decision-making and efficient resource utilisation.
  • Manage commercial change control processes and identify areas for cost recovery.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken with a view towards seamless handover and certification, holding accountability for project KPIs.
  • Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries) and produce clear internal/external reports for stakeholders.


Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working across a variety of project types.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Holds a current UK driving licence


Requirements & Qualifications



Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrable track record of successful project delivery on large-scale or complex construction works.
  • Good understanding of standard forms of construction contracts and proficiency in commercial communications.
  • Extensive experience in implementing safe systems of work and leading behavioural safety on site.
  • Strong team management skills with a proven ability to influence, inspire, mentor, and support others.
  • Commercially astute with a solution-based approach to problem-solving under high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) across all organisational levels.


Certifications:

  • Valid CSCS card and SMSTS qualification (or equivalent).
