The company is engaged in several projects in partnership with the University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield, and University of Warwick, with a total project value of £5 million for 2023-2024.Job DescriptionThis role requires a self-starter capable of developing new technological areas leveraging existing expertise, including CO2 adsorption. Responsibilities include planning, procuring, and managing the concrete laboratory in compliance with regulations. You will lead a team of civil engineers, applying your cement and concrete chemistry knowledge to carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) in concrete, and evaluate CCU techniques on the properties and long-term performance of cement-based materials.Person Specifications and Responsibilities:Experience in independent research, designing and conducting scientific investigationsUnderstanding of concrete mix design, characterisation, and standardsMinimum 5 years post-PhD experience leading independent researchKnowledge of carbonation mechanisms and assessment of CO2 uptake and concrete performance over various life stagesDeep understanding of concrete and cement chemistryRandD experience in developing low-carbon concreteAt least 2 years of experience working in the UK or EuropeExperience in computational chemistry, analysis, and simulation of synthetic materialsExperience in carbon capture, utilisation, and storageExperience in patent writing and grant proposal developmentExperience in mineralising CO2 for various applicationsAbility to develop and evaluate RandD strategies aligned with company goalsReview and management of concrete chemistry projects, ensuring alignment with objectivesManaging laboratory requirements, procurement, and budget utilizationPlanning and evaluating external resources and project outputsOverseeing new project development, ensuring strategic alignmentNegotiating contracts and maintaining vendor and partner relationshipsAssessing and mitigating technological risksMonitoring technology scalability and application in different production scenariosTracking progress towards RandD milestones and patent/IP managementBenchmarking technology performance against competitorsLeading product development projects for CO2 sequestration in concreteC4C seeks applied scientists with an entrepreneurial spirit committed to building a sustainable world.
