An exciting opportunity to take ownership of compliance, quality, and sustainability within a growing manufacturing business, helping to shape the systems, standards and processes that will support its continued success.
Are you an experienced Compliance, Quality or QHSE professional looking for an opportunity to make a genuine impact? Do you enjoy working across different areas of a business, improving processes, staying ahead of legislation, and ensuring that the right standards are not only achieved but embedded throughout an organisation? We''re partnering with an established and growing manufacturing business in the West Midlands to recruit a Compliance & Sustainability Manager into a newly created position. With an expanding operation, an impressive customer portfolio and increasing requirements surrounding environmental responsibility, supply chain compliance and corporate sustainability, the business is looking for someone who can bring expertise, structure, and a proactive approach to an increasingly important area.
This is an opportunity to become the go-to person for compliance across the business, working closely with senior leadership and operational teams to strengthen existing standards while developing new systems and initiatives for the future.
The Opportunity
Reporting into senior operational leadership, you''ll take responsibility for a broad compliance remit spanning quality, health & safety, environmental management, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility. Whilst the business already has established quality and health & safety processes, a significant part of this role will involve developing and enhancing its wider compliance framework. From implementing environmental management standards and coordinating carbon reporting to strengthening supplier compliance and preparing for evolving legislation, you''ll play a key role in ensuring the business remains ahead of customer and regulatory expectations.
What Will You Be Doing?
Quality & Management Systems
- Maintain, develop, and continuously improve the existing ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Lead internal auditing programmes, coordinate external audits, and ensure ongoing certification compliance.
- Maintain relevant product certifications, technical documentation, and quality standards.
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure procedures are practical, effective, and embedded throughout the business.
Environmental Compliance & Sustainability
- Support the development and implementation of ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
- Take ownership of environmental compliance initiatives, including waste management, packaging legislation, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
- Develop systems to capture, monitor and report environmental and carbon emissions data.
- Coordinate Net Zero reporting and support customer sustainability requirements.
- Monitor emerging environmental legislation, assessing its potential impact and implementing appropriate processes ahead of regulatory changes.
CSR, ESG & Supply Chain Compliance
- Lead and coordinate corporate social responsibility and ESG compliance activities.
- Manage and develop SEDEX compliance, strengthening ethical and responsible sourcing standards across the supplier network.
- Work with suppliers to ensure their practices align with the business''s compliance expectations.
- Support customer audits, compliance questionnaires, and sustainability reporting requirements.
- Partner with commercial and operational teams to provide compliance information for tenders and customer enquiries.
Health & Safety
- Maintain and enhance health & safety standards across manufacturing, warehouse, yard, and office environments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, risk assessments, safe systems of work and operational procedures.
- Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a positive, proactive safety culture across all areas of the business.
What Are We Looking For?
We''re keen to speak with experienced compliance professionals who can combine strong technical knowledge with the ability to influence people and drive improvements. Ideally, you''ll bring:
- Experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment, with a solid understanding of operational compliance.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, quality management systems and internal auditing.
- Experience managing or supporting health & safety compliance within a manufacturing setting.
- An understanding of environmental legislation, sustainability reporting, ESG or wider corporate compliance requirements.
- The confidence to work independently, advise senior stakeholders and engage with teams across different functions.
- A proactive, commercially aware approach, with the ability to translate legislation and customer requirements into practical business processes.
Experience with ISO 14001, SEDEX, EPR, packaging regulations, carbon reporting or supply chain compliance would be particularly advantageous. A background in packaging, plastics or materials-related manufacturing would also be beneficial, although we''re equally interested in candidates from other manufacturing sectors who have the right transferable expertise. Qualifications such as ISO Lead Auditor and NEBOSH would be highly desirable.
If you''re an experienced Quality, Compliance, QHSE or Sustainability professional who enjoys variety, responsibility and the opportunity to make meaningful improvements, we''d love to hear from you.
