We are currently recruiting for a Complex Needs Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Maidenhead. This is a full-time, term-time role working with children who present with a wide range of needs, including trauma, developmental delays, learning difficulties, and mental health challenges.
As a Complex Needs Support Assistant, you will provide one-to-one and small group support, helping students access learning and manage their emotional and behavioural responses in a safe, structured environment. Many of the children you''ll support have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and your role will be key in helping them build confidence, regulation, and resilience.
Key responsibilities as a Complex Needs Support Assistant:
Deliver tailored support to pupils with complex learning, emotional, or behavioural needs
Implement mental health strategies and behaviour plans designed by SEN staff and therapists
Build strong, consistent relationships to help students feel safe and understood
Create a calm and positive classroom environment that promotes emotional wellbeing
This Complex Needs Support Assistant position is ideal for those considering careers in psychology, social work, speech and language therapy, SEN teaching, or mental health services.
What we''re looking for:
A strong interest in mental health, special education, or child development
Patience, empathy, and a calm, grounded approach to challenges
Experience in education, care, youth work, or support settings (desirable, not essential)
By joining the school as a Complex Needs Support Assistant, you''ll become part of a compassionate and skilled team, receiving guidance and training to help you grow. You''ll gain valuable, hands-on experience supporting young people with high levels of need-many of whom require consistent emotional and mental health support alongside their education.
