Due to continued expansion, we are recruiting 2 Commissioning Engineers to join a highly successful and financially stable engineering organisation operating within the automated warehousing and industrial automation sector. We are looking for ambitious, proactive individuals with a positive attitude who are keen to develop their careers within a supportive and growing business. This role offers excellent long-term career prospects and would suit experienced Commissioning Engineers, Field Service Engineers, Maintenance Engineers, Automation Engineers, and motivated Graduate Engineers looking to build a career in industrial automation and intralogistics, with previous experience in PLC troubleshooting.
About the Role
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for preparing, testing, commissioning, and validating automated warehouse and material handling systems at customer sites before final handover. You will play a key role in ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer expectations and project specifications.
The position involves approximately 90% travel, with assignments typically lasting between 2 and 4 weeks on customer sites, followed by periods of remote working or time away from site. Candidates should be comfortable spending periods away from home. All business travel, accommodation, and associated expenses are fully covered by the company.
You will work closely with customers, project teams, and system integrators, requiring strong communication skills and the maturity to represent the business professionally on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission and start up automated warehousing and material handling systems, including conveyors, shuttles, lifts, robotic equipment, and associated automation systems.
- Configure, test, validate, and troubleshoot PLC software and control systems during commissioning activities.
- Monitor and optimise system performance throughout testing and start-up phases.
- Diagnose, investigate, and resolve technical issues encountered on customer sites.
- Provide first-line and second-line technical support to customers and integration partners, both remotely and on-site.
- Support customer training and assist end users with system operation where required.
- Produce accurate commissioning reports, technical documentation, and issue logs.
- Collaborate closely with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure all activities are completed in accordance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company procedures.
- Promote continuous improvement, lean working practices, and a strong safety culture.
- Provide technical feedback to engineering and project teams to support ongoing product and process improvements.
Skills and Experience
- A qualification in Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working within industrial automation, intralogistics, manufacturing, material handling, or similar technical environments.
- Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- A hands-on approach with the ability to perform on-site technical adjustments and minor repairs on Siemens or Allen Bradley control platforms
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills, with the maturity and confidence to liaise professionally with customers on-site.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively within international project teams.
- Flexibility to travel extensively across the UK and work varied site schedules.
- The ability to work safely in industrial environments, including occasional work at height or in temperature-controlled areas.
