Commercial Manager

to join our dynamic

in Basingstoke. This is a pivotal role focused on developing and pricing compelling bid solutions that secure future projects while maintaining tender margins.

What you''ll be doing

As a key member of our pre-contract team, you’ll:

Lead the pricing and commercial strategy for bids, ensuring innovation and value engineering are at the heart of every proposal.Collaborate across disciplines—estimating, design, procurement, and operations—to craft winning solutions.Engage directly with transformational clients to understand their needs and build strong relationships.Present proposals in a smart, clear, and compelling way to both internal and external stakeholders.Manage commercial risks and ensure bids align with Balfour Beatty’s governance processes.Drive continuous improvement by integrating feedback from live contracts and industry developments.Develop pricing strategies using both top-down and bottom-up approaches.Ensure proposals meet client requirements and outperform competitors.Coordinate with legal, pensions, property, insurance, and HR teams for contract reviews.Manage tender risk and opportunity registers.Support successful tender handovers and ongoing delivery team collaboration.

Who we''re looking for

Proven experience as a Commercial Manager in a bidding environment.Experience in a Highway infrastructure maintenance and scheme delivery.Strong commercial acumen with technical/design knowledge.Innovative and creative approach to pricing and proposal development.Excellent time management and organisational skills.Ability to lead cross-functional teams under tight deadlines.Resilience and determination to succeed.
