Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Turner (Programmer / Setter / Operator) to join our skilled engineering team based in Kingston upon Thames. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly capable machinist who enjoys working on precision engineering projects and takes pride in producing high-quality, low-volume components.
The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating a Doosan Puma 2600 CNC lathe with C and Y Axis capability. The role requires a strong understanding of CNC machining processes, the ability to programme machines from scratch, and confidence working independently to produce complex components to exacting standards.
This position would suit an experienced CNC Turner who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working on small-batch, high-precision engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Programme, set, and operate a Doosan Puma 2600 single-turret CNC lathe
- Utilise C Axis and Y Axis machining capabilities to produce complex components
- Create, write, prove, and edit CNC programmes using machine controls
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, and machining strategies to achieve optimum results
- Set machines efficiently, including tooling changes, offsets, work holding, and first-off inspection
- Manufacture a wide range of precision components from various materials, including challenging engineering materials
- Produce small-batch components, typically ranging from 1-10 off, with a strong focus on quality and accuracy
- Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing instructions
- Work to tight tolerances and maintain high standards of workmanship
- Carry out in-process inspection and quality checks using appropriate measuring equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a wider engineering team
- Support continuous improvement by suggesting improvements to machining methods and processes
Essential Requirements
- Substantial experience in CNC turning within a precision engineering environment
- Proven experience programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes
- Ability to programme CNC machines from scratch rather than relying solely on existing programmes
- Experience working with CNC turning centres with C and Y Axis functionality
- Strong knowledge of machining techniques, tooling selection, and cutting conditions
- Experience machining a variety of materials
- Ability to confidently interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Good understanding of geometric tolerances and precision measurement
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality components
