CNC Programmer (Steel Sector)
Role Overview
The main purpose of this job is to:
- Develop, Optimise and manage the CNC programmes for all processing equipment
- Ensure accurate and efficient output on all machines
- Translate drawings and designs into executable machine programmes
- Support seamless workflow within the production department
Key Responsibilities
- To ensure conformance with all Quality related aspects of processing activities.
- To provide production planning support to other warehouses in the region as required.
- Tracks processing productivity KPI’s, initiates & tracks improvement actions to improve utilisation, reduce downtime & reduce lead time.
- Works closely with Production planning department to ensure highest possible machine and labour utilisation
- Create, optimize, and manage CNC programs for steel processing machinery (Voortman, Kaltenbach, Ficep, Peddinghaus).
- Use machine-specific software such as VACAM (Voortman), FICEP Steel Projects, and Peddimat (Peddinghaus), BEAMDrill to generate and modify programs.
- Interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and production requirements to develop accurate programs.
- Collaborate with production and sales teams to ensure customer requirements, program accuracy and manufacturability is achieved.
- Conduct test runs and troubleshooting of programs on machines to ensure optimal performance and quality output.
- Maintain program libraries, documentation, and revision control.
- Support operators with technical guidance and problem-solving during production runs.
- Continuously improve programming processes to reduce waste, downtime, and errors.
Relevant Experience/Skills/Knowledge
Essential
- Proven experience as a CNC programmer within the steel eel industry.
- Direct experience with Voortman, Kaltenbach, Ficep, and Peddinghaus machines
- Strong understanding of steel profiles, materials, and fabrication processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD files (e.g., .NC Files, DSTV, DXF).
- Solid problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with nesting software or ERP/MRP systems is a plus
