The Opportunity
As a Composites Machining & Hand Routing Technician, you will manufacture, machine, trim, rout, and finish composite and metallic aerospace components to the highest standards of quality, safety, and delivery performance.
Working within our Composite & Sheet Metal Components team, you will combine CNC machining expertise with hand routing and finishing skills to deliver high-quality aerospace products that meet engineering and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Operations
- Operate CNC machining centres to manufacture and finish aerospace components.
- Perform hand routing, trimming, drilling, sanding, and finishing operations.
- Work with a variety of materials including Carbon Fibre Composites, Aluminium, Steel, and Titanium.
- Set up and adjust tooling, fixtures, templates, and machining equipment.
- Select appropriate cutting tools and machining parameters.
- Carry out routine machine checks and basic preventative maintenance activities.

Quality & Compliance
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Conduct in-process inspections using measuring equipment.
- Ensure components meet engineering, customer, and quality requirements.
- Complete production documentation and manufacturing records accurately.
- Support right-first-time manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Health, Safety & Teamwork
- Follow company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality procedures.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and 5S.
- Identify and escalate quality, safety, and process concerns.
- Participate in risk assessments and continuous improvement activities.
- Work collaboratively across the Composite & Sheet Metal Components team.

Essential Skills & Experience

- Time-served apprenticeship in Machining, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline. (NVQ Level 3 Minimum)
- CNC machining experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience using hand routing, trimming, drilling, and finishing tools.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience working to tight tolerances and quality standards.
- Strong practical skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of machining processes and safe working practices.

Desirable Skills & Experience

- Experience working with composite materials.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of aerospace quality requirements and standards.
- Experience using verniers, micrometres, gauges, and templates.
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Continuous improvement experience.
