About the Role
This full-time permanent position (36.25 hours per week) offers hybrid working arrangements in Exeter within their expanding Clinical Negligence team. You'll work on a wide range of complex medical negligence claims while learning from experienced specialist lawyers, with opportunities to develop your role and take on increasing responsibility as you gain experience.
Clinical Negligence Paralegal Responsibilities
- Liaise with clients, experts, barristers, insurers, and other solicitors professionally
- Open, close, and archive client files using firm's IT systems
- Handle emailed and telephone enquiries, providing appropriate client support
- Work with accounts team to process invoices and maintain financial records
- Maintain diaries, arrange appointments, and organise conferences
- Obtain and collate medical records, prepare chronologies, and organise files
- Review expert reports and draft witness statements and court pleadings (with experience)
- Attend meetings, conferences, and court hearings for learning and support
- Manage document production, case management, and external portals
- Maintain spreadsheets and ensure all files are well-organised
Clinical Negligence Paralegal Requirements
- Three A-levels or equivalent and degree qualification
- Previous experience in clinical negligence environment
OR - Previous legal work experience with genuine interest in clinical negligence law
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities from previous positions
- Friendly, approachable "can do" attitude with strong communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and under supervision
- Problem-solving skills with adaptability to varying task requirements
- Excellent IT skills and ability to work closely within a team
