About the Role
Pertemps Northampton Commercial is seeking a Class 1 Driver to join their team based in Raunds, offering a full-time position at £19.63 per hour. This role involves safe and compliant operation of Category C E vehicles, adhering to UK transport regulations. Day drivers complete scheduled deliveries with a professional approach, while night drivers focus on trunking between the depot and designated sites. Key responsibilities include performing thorough pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections, accurately managing delivery notes, defect reports, and tachograph records, and representing the company professionally. No handballing is required. Candidates must hold a valid HGV Class 1 licence, Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph cards, and a solid understanding of driver hours regulations.
The Role
As an HGV Class 1 Driver, your responsibilities will include:
- Safe & Compliant Driving – Operate Class 1 (C E) vehicles in line with all UK road transport regulations and driver hours rules.
- Day Drivers – Carry out scheduled deliveries, ensuring timely and professional service.
- Night Drivers – Primarily trunking between depot and designated sites.
- Vehicle Checks – Complete thorough pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections and report defects.
- Documentation – Accurately complete delivery notes, defect reports, and tachograph records.
- Customer Service – Represent the company professionally at all times.
- No Handballing required
- Valid HGV Class 1 (Category C E) licence
- Valid Driver CPC card
- Valid Digital Tachograph card
- Good understanding of driver hours & working time regulations
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to complete theory & driving assessment
- Newly qualified drivers are encouraged to apply.
- 40-hour basic week (typical 40–44 hours)
- Overtime available
- Some weekend work required during peak periods
- Day Shifts: 04:30 – 07:00
- Night Shifts: 15:30 – 18:00
- Days: £19.63 per hour
- Nights: £19.63 per hour £14.12 per shift allowance
- Saturday/Sunday/Bank Holidays: £24.54 per hour
