Child Support Worker | Schools (CSW or RSW)
Ready to Step Out of Shift Work and Into Secondary Education?
Are you currently working as a Child Residential Support Worker, Youth Worker, or Care Assistant and looking for better work-life balance without losing the impact you make with young people?
A partner secondary school in Blackpool is seeking a dedicated, resilient Pastoral & Behaviour Support Mentor to support Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students (ages 11-16) with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours.
Your background in residential childcare gives you the exact skill-set these pupils need: de-escalation expertise, patience, strong boundaries, and the ability to build trust with vulnerable teenagers.
Why Transition to Secondary Education?
No More 12-Hour Shifts or Sleep-Ins: Work fixed school hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM).
Weekends & School Holidays Off: 13 weeks of school holidays every year.
Consistent Weekly Pay: Transparent daily rates paid weekly via PAYE with accrued holiday pay.
Direct Progression: Access to free accredited CPD (Team-Teach / positive handling, trauma-informed practice, DSL training).
Supportive Environment: Work alongside an established SENDCo, pastoral heads, and learning support teams.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring for secondary students struggling with emotional regulation, school disengagement, or SEMH needs.
Apply positive behaviour management and non-confrontational de-escalation techniques within the classroom and the school''s pastoral hub.
Act as a reliable role model, helping pupils break through barriers to learning and build self-esteem.
Support attendance, reintegration into mainstream classes, and emotional well-being.
Collaborate with teaching staff, the SENDCo, and designated safeguarding leads (DSLs) to maintain pupil tracking and safeguarding logs.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Minimum 6 months of experience supporting vulnerable youth, looked-after children (LAC), or adolescents in residential care, youth work, pupil referral units (PRUs), or alternative provision.
Skills: Strong de-escalation abilities, emotional resilience, firm and fair boundary-setting, and an empathetic approach.
Compliance: Must hold (or be willing to process) an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service and provide full reference history.
