About the Role
The Child Protection Chair/IRO Bradford position, based with Bradford Council, offers a temporary contract at up to £40 per hour umbrella, with hybrid working available. This role centres on safeguarding children at significant risk by assessing danger and making critical decisions, taking professional ownership of those choices. You will challenge social workers, managers, and partner agencies to elevate child protection standards for vulnerable young people. Responsibilities include chairing Child Protection Conferences and arranging suitable attendance, alongside providing quality assurance to Bradford Children and Families Trust to foster practice improvements. This position demands strong assessment skills, decisive judgement, and the confidence to hold others accountable, ensuring robust oversight for children who have suffered harm.

About the Role:
- To safeguard children including those at significant risk of harm by assessing and managing risk and undertaking critical decision making including taking professional responsibility for decision making.
- To challenge the practice of social workers, managers and partners to raise the standard of child protection practice for vulnerable children and young people who have suffered or are at risk of suffering significant harm.
- To provide quality assurance and support to the work of Bradford Children and Families Trust and other agencies to drive improvements in practice.
Key responsibilities include:
- To chair Child Protection Conferences, arrange for appropriate attendance and chair such meetings according to the Safeguarding procedures for Bradford and to conduct reviews and other meetings in relation to children subject to a Child Protection Plan. This includes issues such as, Forced Marriage, Perplexing Presentations, Female Genital
- Mutilation, Sexually Harmful Behaviour, Neglect, Abuse and Trafficking.
- To ensure that each Child Protection Conference takes place in accordance with statutory regulations, guidance and departmental procedures, including screening to determine whether the threshold for a Child Protection Conference is met and/or other appropriate discussions and meetings under safeguarding procedures.
- To hold practitioners and managers within the Bradford Children and Families Trust and the partnership to account for outcomes for children. This includes monitoring standards of practice and, where necessary, offering challenge around working practices that fail to meet the required standard.
- To ensure that all conferences are child-focused and inclusive to promote best outcomes; representing the voice of the child in conferences even if children or young people do not
- This includes access to representation and advocacy services.
- To ensure that parents and families are provided with the opportunity to participate in conferences to represent their voices.
- To contribute to driving improvements in practice by auditing cases where children and
- young people are subject to Child Protection Plans to ensure that senior managers are sighted on the quality of practice and that steps can be taken to address deficits. To maintain and establish effective relationships with all appropriate agencies working to safeguard children and young people in Bradford and to support and lead on the development of local Child Protection forums and any locality based inter-agency teams.
