As the Government''s adviser on the natural environment, Natural England plays a central role in shaping a more sustainable, resilient and prosperous future for England. Established under the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006, we are responsible for conserving, enhancing and managing the natural environment for the benefit of present and future generations, while supporting sustainable development and economic growth. Our remit is broad and vital. We promote nature conservation and protect biodiversity; conserve and enhance landscapes; improve access to and enjoyment of the natural environment; and support social and economic wellbeing through effective environmental stewardship. From advising farmers and land managers, to enabling responsible development, designating protected landscapes, and safeguarding England''s most valuable habitats and species, our work sits at the heart of national priorities. Nature underpins our economy, health and security. Yet it faces unprecedented pressure. Addressing this requires not only protection, but large-scale recovery and regeneration. Through our strategy - Recovering Nature for Growth, Health and Security - we are driving four key outcomes: recovering nature at scale; building greener, healthier places; improving public wellbeing through access to nature; and strengthening national resilience to climate and environmental risks.
