The Opportunity

This is a newly created role introduced as part of the company''s continued investment in manufacturing technology and engineering capability.

As a Castings Engineer (MAGMASOFT), you will be responsible for using simulation software to analyse and optimise mould filling, solidification, feeding, and casting performance across a range of iron and steel castings. Working closely with Engineering, Production, Pattern Shop, Melting and Sand teams, you''ll play an important role in supporting new product introduction, improving yield, reducing defects, and driving continuous process improvements across the foundry.

The successful candidate will become the site''s lead user of MAGMASOFT, supporting both existing production and future growth projects while helping to deliver high-quality castings in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, run and interpret MAGMASOFT simulations for new and existing castings.
  • Analyse simulation results to identify potential casting defects and recommend practical solutions.
  • Design and optimise gating, feeding and risering systems to improve quality, yield and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Work closely with Pattern Shop and Engineering teams to implement simulation-led tooling and process improvements.
  • Support new product introductions through casting feasibility and manufacturability assessments.
  • Provide simulation-based technical feedback to internal stakeholders and customers where required.
  • Validate simulation predictions against production results and trial data.
  • Maintain and update MAGMASOFT material and process databases.
  • Produce technical reports and recommendations to support engineering and operational decision-making.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, yield improvement and scrap reduction.
  • Keep up to date with developments in MAGMASOFT software and casting simulation best practice.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.

What We''re Looking For

  • Previous experience using MAGMASOFT/MAGMA5 is essential.
  • Degree, HND or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience within a foundry, casting or heavy engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of gating, feeding and risering system design.
  • Understanding of casting defect analysis and root-cause investigation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • CAD literacy, including software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or Inventor.
