We are recruiting for an exciting role as a Capex Analyst to join our team here at Thames Water.
As a Capex Analyst, you will be responsible for developing management and financial reports for key stakeholders to support risk and cost management to ensure Waste Treatment, Pumping and Network achieve compliance targets.
You will support the Directly Managed Capital (DMC) governance. This will include managing risk approval, tracking spend to date, forecasting and managing budget release.
What you’ll be doing as a Capex Analyst:

  • Setting up projects including WBS codes, reviewing risks and releasing budgets. Ensure data entry of APS, trackers and SAP is error free. 5 day SLA to fund risks.
  • Working with Area Delivery Managers and Project Engineers to ensure Asset Planning System (APS) data is accurate and up to date i.e. statuses, scoring, quotes etc.
  • Using forums such as Senior Risk Reviews to indicate risk quality and discuss areas to focus on. These include information such as the profiles of scores, statuses, review by dates and spend vs budget.
  • Supporting the creation of investment papers/business cases and liaison with appropriate stakeholders for timely briefing and sign off for all investment needs.
  • Monitor, track and report program financials, benefits, progress and achievement of outputs on approval trackers and Power Bi. Ensuring that the data is completed at the time of funding a risk and accurately.
  • Proactively analysing data that can be categorised simply under projects, regions assets/types of work to be able to discuss budget remaining, value of work done and efficiencies.
  • Build a rapport and enhance relationships with Operations, Capital Maintenance Projects, Finance, Cost Planners and Sponsors.
Base location – Hybrid – this role requires you to attend our Clearwater Court office in Reading, at least once a week with occasional travel to meetings with wider teams.  
Working pattern or hours - 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday
Salary – up to £40,000 per annum dependant on experience
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
  • Thrive on working under pressure and able to cope with changing demands.
  • Ability to prioritise projects and deliverables
  • Organised, attention to detail and capable of handling complex data
  • Working knowledge of SAP ERP
  • Advanced user of Microsoft products (strong Excel skills)
  • Experience in financial reporting, project accounting & budgeting
