CAMHS Specialist Practitioner PsychologistJob summary: The NandS CAMHS Adolescent At-risk and Forensic Service (AAFS) is a national and specialist service within the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. AAFS are recruiting a 1 WTE Band 7 Specialist Practitioner Psychologist to join our team on a permanent basis. This is an opportunity to work with young people and families who present with high risk alongside complex mental health needs and neurodiversity. The successful candidate will consolidate skills in formulation, intervention, and risk management within a skilled clinical team.

ResponsibilitiesHighly specialist assessments of young people with complex mental health needs, high-risk behaviours (e.g., self-harm, aggression, sexual offending) and/or risk of exploitation (sexual and criminal). Assessments include structured risk and neuropsychological assessments.Provide direct and indirect evidence-based psychological interventions for young people, their families and the systems around them.Contribute to enabling staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by creating a psychologically safe environment.Provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate.Undertake service evaluation, audit and research.Work as an autonomous professional within professional guidelines and service policies.

Location and DetailsBased at the Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill, London. Flexible working available. Hours: Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 with possible early mornings, late evenings, and some Saturdays.

Person Specification

Essential: Professional Doctorate or MSc + HCPC registration as Clinical or Forensic psychologist; additional training in CBT/DBT (diploma or short course).

Desirable: Post-qualification training in clinical/forensic risk assessment (e.g., AIM-3, SAVRY).

Experience

Essential: Experience with assessment and treatment of clients with complex needs and risk behaviours; adolescent offending or youth at risk of harm/exploitation.

Desirable: Experience using DBT/AIM/systemic approaches.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Theoretical knowledge relevant to youth violence, harmful sexual behaviour, exploitation; evidence base for treatments; CAMHS assessments including psychometrics.

Knowledge of acceptability and accessibility of mental health care.

Skills in culturally competent therapy, risk assessment and formulation, and delivering interventions with child, parent/carer and systems in at least one model (CBT/DBT).
