CAD Manager/ Technician

Our client is looking for a CAD Manager/ Technician on a freelance basis for a client operating in the Tandamp;D sector, specifically working on high voltage substation projects.

Role Purpose
To manage, coordinate, and deliver all CAD and BIM outputs for high-voltage substation and transmission projects, ensuring drawings, models, and engineering data are produced to the required quality, programme, and client standards.

The role combines hands-on production, CAD team leadership, and digital engineering coordination.

Key Responsibilities
CAD andamp; BIM Management
Lead and manage the CAD team (internal and external).
Develop and implement the CAD/BIM Execution Plan.
Establish project drawing numbering, layering, and file naming protocols.

Ensure compliance with:
Client CAD standards
ISO 19650 (where applicable)
STRABAG digital engineering procedures
Drawing andamp; Model Production
Produce and oversee the preparation of:
Substation general arrangements
Equipment layouts andamp; sections
Cable routing andamp; trench layouts
Earthing layouts
Steelwork andamp; foundation drawings
Interface and installation drawings

Work with electrical, civil, and Pandamp;C engineers to convert design information into accurate deliverables.
Common Data Environment (CDE)
Manage information within the CDE (e.g. document control workflows).
Ensure correct status codes, revisions, and approvals.
Maintain model and drawing issue registers.
Coordination andamp; Clash Detection
Coordinate multi-disciplinary 2D andamp; 3D models.
Run clash detection and resolve spatial conflicts with engineering teams.
Support construction sequencing and temporary works modelling where required.
Standards andamp; Quality Assurance
Carry out QA checks on all CAD deliverables.
Maintain drawing templates, libraries, and standard details.
Implement continuous improvement in digital delivery.

Programme andamp; Resource Management
Plan CAD deliverables in line with the engineering schedule.
Forecast resource requirements.
Manage outsourced CAD work packages.
Stakeholder Interface
Act as the main CAD/BIM interface with:
Engineering teams
Construction teams
External designers
Client digital/BIM representatives

Clash detection reports
As-built drawing and model set

Required Qualifications andamp; Experience
Essential
HNC / HND / Degree in Engineering, Design, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Strong experience on HV substation / Tandamp;D projects (132kV-400kV or above).
Proven experience in a CAD leadership or senior technician role.

Advanced capability in:
AutoCAD
Revit / Civil 3D / Plant 3D (project dependent)
Experience working to strict client CAD standards.
