Business Development Manager - Construction Consultancy Services

Location: Essex (Hybrid/National Travel Required)
Salary: -60,00080,000 Basic + Uncapped Commission (OTE -100,000+)

An established and rapidly growing multidisciplinary construction consultancy is seeking an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager to support its continued expansion across the UK.

The organisation delivers a broad range of professional services within the built environment sector, including planning consultancy, architectural design, engineering consultancy, building control, project management, and compliance services. Due to continued growth and increasing demand, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced business development professional to join the senior team and drive new business acquisition across multiple sectors.



The Role

Reporting directly to the leadership team, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities across residential, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, local authority, and property development markets.

The successful candidate will promote a diverse portfolio of consultancy services and build long-term relationships with developers, contractors, consultants, housing providers, local authorities, and other key stakeholders within the construction and property sectors.

This role offers significant autonomy and would suit an entrepreneurial individual who thrives on developing opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and generating sustainable revenue growth.



Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and secure new profitable business opportunities within the construction and property sectors.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key decision-makers across the development and construction industry.
  • Generate and manage a healthy sales pipeline through networking, referrals, market research, and proactive business development activity.
  • Attend client meetings, presentations, and project discussions to understand requirements and identify opportunities.
  • Promote the company''s full range of consultancy and technical services.
  • Prepare proposals, fee submissions, and tender responses in collaboration with operational teams.
  • Manage opportunities from initial enquiry through to appointment and contract award.
  • Maintain accurate records and sales activity through the CRM system.
  • Attend industry exhibitions, conferences, networking events, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Monitor market trends and identify emerging opportunities for business growth.
  • Achieve agreed sales targets and contribute to the company''s wider growth strategy.
  • Provide regular pipeline updates, forecasts, and management reports.


Candidate Requirements

  • A proven track record in business development, sales, or account management within construction, engineering, property, architecture, consultancy, or related sectors.
  • Experience selling professional services, consultancy solutions, or technical services.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building abilities.
  • The ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • A proactive, self-motivated, and target-driven approach.
  • Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Existing industry contacts and networks would be advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally.


Package

  • Basic salary of -60,00080,000 depending on experience.
  • Uncapped commission structure with realistic on-target earnings exceeding -100,000.
