A leading national construction business with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across a range of sectors is looking to appoint a Building Services Engineer to join the Northwest region.

This is a key technical role, covering the full lifecycle of building services delivery, from pre-construction design and tendering through to site installation, commissioning and final handover. Working closely with project teams, consultants and specialist subcontractors, you will help ensure all Building Services are properly coordinated, delivered to the required standards and completed in line with programme and budget.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating building services design information with consultants and subcontractors, ensuring drawings, specifications and technical details are available in line with project requirements.
  • Supporting the tendering and procurement of M&E packages, including subcontractor assessments, cost planning and identifying opportunities for value engineering.
  • Overseeing the quality of building services installations through regular site inspections, quality audits and reviews of subcontractor quality control processes.
  • Working closely with site management teams to identify potential defects, resolve technical issues and maintain high standards of installation throughout the project.
  • Providing guidance to site personnel on building services quality, snagging and defect prevention.
  • Coordinating mechanical, electrical, plumbing and specialist services to ensure they integrate with the wider construction works and meet the original design requirements.
  • Monitoring subcontractor progress, design information and installation activities against the contract programme, highlighting risks and helping keep works on track.
  • Chairing services coordination meetings and liaising with design teams, project managers, subcontractors and utility providers to resolve issues and maintain progress.
  • Overseeing the procurement and installation of permanent site utilities, coordinating with the relevant providers to meet project deadlines.
  • Ensuring health, safety and quality requirements are maintained in accordance with company procedures and project-specific quality plans.
  • Managing the testing and commissioning process to ensure all building systems operate as intended and are ready for occupation at handover.
  • Ensuring commissioning records, operation and maintenance manuals and other technical documentation are complete and provided on time.
  • Producing regular reports covering progress, design information and outstanding technical matters.
  • Providing ongoing technical support on completed projects, assisting with the resolution of building services defects and supporting the maintenance team where required.

About You

You will have previous experience in a Building Services Engineer role within the construction industry, gained within a main contractor, building services consultancy or specialist contractor environment.

You will have a sound understanding of mechanical and electrical building services, including the coordination of design information, installation quality, commissioning and handover requirements.

Experience working with consultants, architects, engineers, clients and specialist subcontractors is important, along with the ability to provide practical technical advice to site teams and manage issues through to resolution.

You will be organised, proactive and commercially aware, with strong communication skills and the confidence to build relationships across all levels of a project team. A commitment to quality, attention to detail and a focus on delivering fully commissioned, defect-free buildings are essential.
