Laing O''Rourke is seeking a

Building Regulations Principal Designer – Technical Lead

to play a critical role on our secure accommodation projects with the

Ministry of Justice . These projects are not only technically complex but socially significant – creating safe, sustainable facilities that will serve communities for decades to come.

This role is suited to an experienced professional who can balance deep technical knowledge with collaborative leadership, guiding teams through the complexities of building safety and regulatory compliance.

What you''ll be doing

Plan, manage, and monitor

design activities to ensure compliance with all Building Regulations.

Champion competence,

ensuring designers and dutyholders are fully equipped to deliver safely and effectively.

Foster cooperation

across design, construction, and client teams to maintain compliance at every stage.

Provide timely

building information

to designers and contractors, keeping projects on track.

Identify and mitigate design risks,

with a particular focus on higher-risk building work.

Support and develop the

Laing O''Rourke Building Safety Management System , embedding best practice and continuous improvement.

Coordinate with other dutyholders

and build communities of best practice to share knowledge across projects.

Collaborate with discipline leads to embed

competence requirements

linked to the Building Safety Act into project deliverables.

Support the

design teams with training, guidance, and regulatory updates

to ensure consistent compliance.

Monitor regulatory changes, assess impacts, and ensure the business adapts quickly and effectively.

What we''re looking for

Around

10 years'' experience

managing design and construction projects.

Strong technical background with a

degree in Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline) .

Exceptional communicator, able to simplify and guide teams through complex frameworks.

Skilled collaborator with the ability to work confidently with internal and external stakeholders.

Experienced in

risk management, technical assurance, and regulatory compliance .

Business-minded with the ability to balance

quality, safety, and value for clients .

Highly organised and able to thrive in fast-paced, complex environments.
