Bridge Engineer
Our client is seeking a talented Structures Engineer to join their Asset Management team, supporting the management, assessment and improvement of critical highway infrastructure assets across the South West. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing structures that support a major strategic road network, while developing your technical and project management expertise.
The position offers a hybrid working arrangement and can be based from either Bristol or Exeter.
The Role
As a Structures Engineer, you will support the management of a diverse portfolio of structures assets, identifying maintenance and renewal requirements, undertaking structural assessments, and helping to develop cost-effective engineering solutions.
Working closely with technical partners and delivery teams, you will contribute to the development and delivery of asset improvement programmes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage briefs for structures inspections, surveys and assessment works.
- Support the delivery of structures surveys, assessments, improvements and renewal schemes.
- Monitor technical work undertaken by external partners and contractors.
- Develop early-stage engineering solutions and renewal options, considering innovation, buildability, whole-life cost and value.
- Undertake structural reviews and assessments in accordance with relevant standards.
- Assist in the development of forward asset programmes and scheme proposals.
- Produce technical documentation, option reports and supporting evidence for project development.
- Support budget management and programme delivery activities.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in structures maintenance, asset management, structural assessment, design, or renewal projects.
- Knowledge of highway structures standards, including DMRB, MCHW and Eurocodes.
- Understanding of CDM 2015 regulations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A customer-focused approach and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience supporting project budgets and scheme development would be advantageous.
- A commitment to professional development and progression towards professional accreditation.
