Objectives of ServiceThe overall purpose of Barnardo''s Early Help Autism Team is to support children with Autism (or in the process of an autism assessment being undertaken) and their parent/carer.The service aims to enable families and young people with autism to better understand the diagnosis and develop strategies to manage behaviour. All services are developed in partnership with parent, carer and the children themselves.The post holder will work under supervision to provide short-term home-based autism programmes to children with an autism diagnosis or undergoing an assessment for autism, their parents/carers/siblings, in order to enhance carer''s skills and abilities and thus improve family functioning.Specific Responsibilities of this Project Worker role:In-depth knowledge, understanding and skills in working with children and young people with AutismHave an awareness of; or delivered PECS or Makaton to families on a one to one basis, with guidance from schoolExperience working with parents either facilitating a group programme or one to one and provided strategies and resources to support their understanding of autismExperience of working with children with autism one to one in a specialist setting; such as the classroom or in a specialist role to deliver an intervention packageWilling to a deliver the Cygnet autism parenting programme on a one to one basis in the family home and via a group programme with parentsWilling to undertake training in specialist areas ..... full job details .....
