Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of our client for a Biomedical Scientist (Band 5/6) to join their laboratory team in Milton Keynes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services within a regulated clinical laboratory. You''ll play a vital role in performing analytical testing, ensuring accurate and timely results that support clinical decision-making and excellent patient care.

Key Duties

  • Perform analytical testing, validation, and processing of patient samples.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Process urgent, routine, and specialist investigations within agreed turnaround times.
  • Review and authorise results in accordance with SOPs, competency requirements, and quality standards.
  • Participate in Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 15189, UKAS, and laboratory quality standards.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and full sample traceability.
  • Work closely with clinicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to support patient care.


Requirements

  • Degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • IBMS-accredited degree.
  • Experience installing and validating analysers, including Beckman Coulter DXI9000 or equivalent.
  • Previous experience within a clinical pathology or diagnostic laboratory.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing processes and quality standards.
  • Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Understanding of laboratory quality management systems and accreditation requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and IT skills.
