Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children''s Speech and Language Therapist to join a well-established Early Years and Community service in Shropshire. This role will suit either a Band 6 Highly Specialist SLT or Band 7 Advanced Practitioner, depending on experience.

The role involves working across early years settings, schools, and community clinics, supporting children and young people with a wide range of speech, language, communication, and feeding needs.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver specialist SLT assessment and intervention for children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
Manage a complex paediatric caseload, including children with SEN and additional needs
Work collaboratively with education staff, families, and MDT colleagues
Deliver training, coaching and support to parents, carers, and professionals
Assess and support paediatric dysphagia (Band 6/7 dependent)
Contribute to service development, audits and clinical governance
Support use of AAC (low and high-tech communication aids)
Provide supervision/mentorship (Band 7 level)
Essential Requirements
Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
HCPC registration
Member of RCSLT
Significant experience working with children and young people with SLCN
Experience within early years and/or school settings
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Strong communication, organisational and clinical reasoning skills
Band 6 Specific Requirements
Experience managing a paediatric caseload including complex SEN
Experience delivering assessments, interventions and training
Dysphagia competency or willingness to complete post-grad qualification
Band 7 Additional Requirements
Advanced clinical experience across paediatric SLT services
Experience delivering specialist training packages (e.g. Elklan, Makaton)
Experience in leadership, supervision, or service development
Advanced assessment, analysis and reporting skills
Ability to support and mentor junior staff
Working Requirements
Community-based role - travel required across Telford, Shrewsbury and surrounding areas
Full UK driving licence essential
Work across clinics, schools, early years settings, and home environments
Ability to manage physically and emotionally demanding caseloads
Additional Information
Full-time preferred, part-time considered
Compliance required: HCPC, DBS, mandatory training, references
Exposure to complex and sometimes challenging clinical environments
