Automation Assistant
Location: Erdington
Pay Rate: £21.00 per hour
Hours: 22:00-0600
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Automation Assistant to join our busy Operations team within a highly automated logistics environment.
The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining the smooth and continuous flow of automated warehouse operations, ensuring equipment and conveyor systems remain operational and any issues are dealt with quickly and safely.
You will work closely with the Control Room and Engineering teams, acting as a first point of contact for conveyor stoppages, product flow issues and basic faults. Where required, you will escalate technical issues to the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor automated conveyor and warehouse systems for faults, stoppages and abnormalities.
• Respond quickly to conveyor stoppages and first-line faults.
• Investigate and resolve basic mechanical or operational issues within your training and capabilities.
• Escalate technical faults to the Engineering/KNAPP team where required.
• Safely restart equipment following approved procedures.
• Carry out daily and shift equipment checks.
• Support the smooth movement of products through the automated system.
• Report and document faults, incidents and recurring issues.
• Communicate system faults and updates clearly to the Control Room.
• Confirm when faults have been rectified and systems are operational.
• Support shift handovers and ensure important information is communicated to the incoming team.
• Maintain good housekeeping and cleanliness around automation equipment.
• Follow all SOPs, risk assessments, health & safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Work closely with warehouse, control room and engineering teams to minimise downtime.
• Identify recurring problems and ensure they are reported for further investigation.
• Carry out other reasonable duties within your training and capabilities.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
• Previous experience working in a warehouse, logistics, engineering or automated environment.
• Experience working with machinery, conveyors or automated equipment is highly desirable.
• Good understanding of warehouse operations.
• Previous experience with a Warehouse Management System (WMS) is advantageous.
• A genuine interest in engineering, automation and mechanical systems.
• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to react quickly to operational issues.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with different teams.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• A strong commitment to health & safety.
• The ability to follow instructions, SOPs and risk assessments.
• A flexible and proactive approach to work.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
