Autism/SLD Teacher - Portsmouth

Contract: Full time andndash; October andrsquo;25 start
Contract Type: Fixed-Term (August 2026) with the possibility of becoming permanent.
Salary: andpound;180 - andpound;240 per day
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver creative, personalised lessons in line with the National Curriculum, adapted to meet pupilsandrsquo; individual needs.
- Create a motivating classroom where children feel safe, valued and inspired to learn.
- Work closely with therapists and external professionals, weaving physiotherapy, speech andamp; language, OT and behaviour support programmes into daily routines.
- Assess, record and report on pupilsandrsquo; progress, setting meaningful targets linked to their EHCPs.
- Write and review individualised support plans (communication, behaviour, learning).
- Use ICT and specialist resources to enhance teaching and learning.
- Lead at least one curriculum subject, sharing your expertise with colleagues.
- Support pupilsandrsquo; personal care, independence and social development as needed.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families and carers, keeping them involved in their childandrsquo;s journey.
- Safeguard pupilsandrsquo; welfare and maintain a safe, positive classroom environment.
Qualifications andamp; Skills:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience of teaching pupils with special educational needs, and a genuine enthusiasm for supporting children with complex learning profiles.
- Strong understanding of the National Curriculum and effective teaching strategies.
- High expectations of progress and behaviour, built on positive relationships.
- Confident in assessing learning and using data to shape next steps.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external professionals.
- Resilient, empathetic and committed to inclusion and equality of opportunity.
- A willingness to engage in professional development and reflect on your own practice.
