Job Vacancy: Autism Support Teaching Assistant
Location: LS8, Leeds
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
A welcoming SEN provision in the LS8 area is looking for a compassionate and reliable Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join their SEND team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), helping them access learning, build confidence, and thrive in a structured setting.
The Role:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with autism
- Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and sensory needs
- Implement EHCP targets and work collaboratively with teachers and SENCOs
- Help create a calm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Use visual aids, structured routines, and communication tools (e.g. PECS, Makaton - training provided if needed)
You''ll Need:
- Experience working with children with autism (in a school, care, or support setting)
- A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive attitude and the ability to adapt to individual needs
- A valid DBS check on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
- The right to work in the UK
- Two professional references
