About the role:

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students on the autism spectrum, ensuring they feel understood, safe, and encouraged in their educational journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for students with Autism, assisting them in accessing the curriculum.
  • Support small groups of pupils, encouraging participation and engagement in learning activities.
  • Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual student needs.
  • Encourage the development of social and communication skills through structured activities.
  • Implement personalised support plans in collaboration with teachers and SENCOs.
  • Promote independence and self-confidence in students by offering consistent encouragement.
  • Support with emotional regulation strategies, helping students manage anxiety and transitions.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, and external professionals to provide holistic support.
  • Monitor and record student progress, reporting observations to teachers and SEN staff.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.

Requirements:

  • CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare, Teaching Assistance, or equivalent qualification (desirable but not mandatory).
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with autism, ideally within an SEN environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of autism strategies such as TEACCH, PECS, or social stories is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient approach.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
