A specialist school in Chippenham, Wiltshire is looking for a caring, enthusiastic and committed Autism Support Assistant to join its supportive team. You will work alongside experienced teachers and specialist professionals to support children aged 5-16 who have Autism, communication needs, sensory differences and a range of additional learning requirements.



The Role

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will provide personalised support to help children feel secure, understood and confident within the school environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Helping children participate in lessons and engage with a variety of learning activities.
  • Encouraging communication and helping children express their thoughts, feelings and needs.
  • Supporting children to develop social skills and build positive relationships.
  • Providing reassurance and practical support when children experience sensory or emotional difficulties.
  • Encouraging independence through everyday routines, activities and learning opportunities.
  • Helping children build confidence, resilience and important life skills.
  • Following individual support plans and implementing agreed strategies.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and SEN professionals to support children''s development.
  • Creating a positive, structured and inclusive environment where children can feel safe and successful.


About You

Previous experience working within a specialist school is beneficial but not essential. We are looking for someone who is patient, compassionate, adaptable and genuinely interested in supporting children with Autism and additional needs.

You should be confident building positive relationships and understand the importance of maintaining a calm, consistent and supportive approach. Every child is different, so being able to recognise and respond to individual strengths, communication styles and needs is particularly important.

This role would be especially well suited to graduates and aspiring professionals considering careers in:
