Audit Senior / Audit Semi Senior

Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire (Office-based)
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 DOE
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established accountancy practice in Hitchin for an Audit Senior / Audit Semi Senior to join their growing audit team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with recent practice experience who is confident managing audit assignments from planning through to completion. The successful candidate will work with a varied portfolio of clients across different sectors while developing their technical and professional skills within a supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver audit assignments from planning through to completion.
  • Prepare audit files and working papers to a high professional standard.
  • Identify audit risks and communicate findings to managers.
  • Liaise directly with clients throughout the audit process.
  • Review financial statements and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with statutory accounts preparation where required.
  • Ensure all work is completed within agreed deadlines.
  • Support and mentor junior team members where appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with UK accounting and auditing standards.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Part-qualified ACA or ACCA (or equivalent).
  • Recent experience working within a UK accountancy practice.
  • Experience handling audit assignments from planning through to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Good understanding of UK auditing standards.
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Desirable

  • Experience gained within a medium-sized accountancy practice.
  • Accounts preparation experience.
  • Experience supervising junior staff.
  • Knowledge of audit software such as CCH, CaseWare, IRIS, or similar.
