Associate Structural Engineer
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has opened for an Associate Structural Engineer to join a growing, design-focused civil and structural engineering consultancy in their Bristol office.
This is a senior-level position suited to a Chartered Engineer who is looking to step beyond pure project delivery. You’ll play a central role in client engagement, business development, and team expansion — with the opportunity to shape and grow your own team within an established office of around 12 professionals.
The consultancy delivers high-quality commercial and residential schemes, operating with a boutique approach — focusing on carefully selected clients, bespoke engineering solutions, and strong technical excellence, all without the constraints of a large corporate structure.
The Role
As an Associate Structural Engineer, you’ll take on a position that blends technical leadership with commercial and client-facing responsibilities, contributing to both successful project delivery and the continued growth of the Bristol office.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and delivery of commercial and residential structural projects
- Acting as a key client contact and trusted engineering advisor
- Building and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships
- Supporting business development and securing repeat and new work
- Mentoring, managing, and growing a team of engineers
- Maintaining high standards of technical quality and consistency
- Collaborating closely with architects and multidisciplinary design teams
- Contributing to the strategic development and expansion of the Bristol office
About You
We’re looking for a confident and commercially aware Chartered Structural Engineer who can bring:
- Chartered status (MIStructE or MICE)
- Strong experience delivering commercial and residential projects
- Proven ability in client-facing roles and relationship management
- Demonstrable success in business development and winning work
- Leadership experience, or a clear ambition to build and lead a team
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset
This consultancy recognises and rewards leadership, trust, and performance, offering:
- Salary of £65,000 – £70,000
- Competitive overall package including bonus, healthcare, and pension
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
- A clear pathway to senior leadership beyond Associate level
- The opportunity to build and lead your own team
- A collaborative, supportive, and design-led culture
- High-quality, interesting projects without corporate bureaucracy
If you’re ready to step into an Associate role — or you’re already operating at this level but looking for a stronger platform — this is a rare opportunity to take ownership of clients, shape a team, and grow a regional presence, all within an established and supportive consultancy.
