An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cancer Services at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust as a Band 7 Associate Service Manager. The role will require cross site working at both University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Experience within Cancer Services and knowledge of Cancer Waiting Times guidance and working knowledge of the Somerset Cancer Registry system is essential, as well as a good understanding of patient pathway navigation. The post holder will ensure that the patient''s pathways are tracked fully by the tracking teams and that the data collected is of high quality to ensure that national and local targets are delivered fully. This involves navigating patients through their pathways to treatment or discharge, ensuring that all patients are escalated in a timely manner to managers and clinical teams when needed and helping with the preparation of MDM meetings, with the aim of improving the care and experience of cancer patients treated within the Trust. You must enjoy working in a busy environment and be able to prioritise your own workload. You will need good interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team, be IT literate, and able to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment.About us

Key Result Areas and Performance:To assist the Cancer Management Team in ensuring the smooth and effective running of the Cancer Data Team.To ensure the delivery of the suspected-cancer performance targets for the Trust and that the Trusts access policy is followed, including booking of all initial suspected cancer appointments.To have oversight on weekly adherence and tracking of the suspected-cancer performance pathways, supporting the Service Manager for Cancer.Responsible for the delivery of identified quality and service improvement projects or development programmes that contribute to the modernisation of patient servicesTo play an active role within the Cancer Management Team, participating in the full range of the Divisions affairs as and when required.To promote Data quality in line with National Audits and COSD submission requirementsSupport in handling of complaints where appropriate, supporting the Service Manager for Cancer.To maintain shared responsibility, alongside the Service Manager for Cancer, in chairing weekly Cancer Assurance Meetings and to ensure all actions are documented/actioned accordingly.To attend relevant departmental meetings within the Trust to represent the Division and provide updates on various issues e.g. Service Delivery, HR issues, Health and Safety matters, Security issues.To identify and lead change management and redesign projects to achieve access targets.To undertake risk assessment for areas of responsibility and ensure that appropriate health and safety, fire and other statutory regulations are adhered to.To ensure accurate recording of all activity within area for which the postholder is responsible, including any service plan monitoring information as required.To prepare Business Cases for service developments for submission both internally and externally as required.To act as the Divisions link for both internal and external IT developments, in particular to support the development of the Somerset Cancer Registry system.To deputise for the Service Manager for Cancer in periods of absence.WorkforceCreate a culture which fosters staff involvement, a progressive attitude to work life issues, is free from harassment and bullying and respects the dignity and diversity of all staff.Be responsible for the recruitment, management and development of all non-medical staff in area of responsibility, and enable them to deliver a high-quality service and fulfil their individual potential.To undertake staff appraisal for non-medical staff, setting objectives and identifying training and development needs in accordance with the Trust Performance Management Guidance.To conduct return to work interviews for any periods of sickness and to monitor and manage sickness absence within area of responsibility.To take appropriate action with issues of staff discipline, grievance, poor performance and sickness within area of responsibility, in accordance with the Trusts procedures.As a Trust Manager to carry out investigations of staff management issues in other areas of the Trust as requestedEncourage and support all clinical staff to develop their role in line with national and Trust guidelines.Encourage the sharing of good practice and process within the Service and across the Trust and professional boundaries.Establish effective communications and working relationships within own portfolio and throughout the Service.Establish effective communications and working relationships with other Services, Departments and external agencies.Person Specification

Qualifications

Educated to first level degree or equivalent experienceManagement/leadership qualification or equivalent experience at post graduate levelFurther relevant trainingExperience

Proven experience of working in a management/leadership role in an acute healthcare environment.Experience of leading and motivating a team.Experience managing against Trust policy processesIdentifying and leading on project initiatives for service improvement.Identifying and interpreting national policy and implementing required changes.Experience managing budgetsBackground in Pathway Tracking/managementKnowledge and Skills

Extensive experience working with National Cancer Targets and pathways.In depth understanding of change management.Able to use IT systems including Microsoft Office to an intermediate levelStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to validate, surmise and present highly complex data/information and make judgements/draw conclusions effectivelyUnderstanding of Governance processesHigh level of attention to detailExperience working with Somerset Cancer Registry systemPersonal Qualities
