Associate Flood Risk Consultant

Leeds | -70,000 - -75,000| Hybrid

An established and growing environmental consultancy is looking to appoint an Associate Flood Risk Consultant to join its Leeds team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced flood risk professional looking to progress their career within a specialist team, working on a diverse range of projects across the UK. You''ll have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, develop client relationships and support the growth and development of more junior members of the team.



The Role

You will be involved in a varied workload covering flood risk, drainage and water management, supporting projects from initial assessment through to planning and delivery.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, managing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies.
  • Providing flood risk and drainage advice for residential, commercial and infrastructure developments.
  • Undertaking and reviewing hydraulic modelling and interpreting modelling outputs.
  • Developing sustainable drainage solutions and assessing SuDS proposals.
  • Liaising with clients, local authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities and the Environment Agency.
  • Managing projects, programmes and budgets.
  • Preparing technical reports, proposals and fee submissions.
  • Attending client and project meetings and developing strong working relationships.
  • Reviewing technical work and providing guidance to junior consultants.
  • Supporting business development and helping to develop new project opportunities.
  • Working alongside wider environmental and engineering teams on multidisciplinary projects.


About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in flood risk consultancy, with experience working on development and/or infrastructure projects.

You should have:

  • Proven experience within a flood risk, drainage or water environment consultancy.
  • Strong experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies.
  • Good knowledge of UK flood risk policy, planning requirements and relevant guidance.
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling and/or drainage design.
  • Strong report writing and technical communication skills.
  • The ability to manage projects and communicate confidently with clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior members of a team.
  • A relevant degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status or progress towards chartership would be beneficial.
