We are currently supporting a leading global technical consultancy with the appointment of an Assistant Transport Modeller to join its growing Midlands Transport Team in Leicester.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career who has a strong numerical ability, an analytical mindset and a genuine interest in how transport networks operate. You''ll work alongside experienced transport professionals, gaining hands-on experience across a broad portfolio of projects while receiving structured on-the-job development.

The Opportunity

As an Assistant Transport Modeller, you will support a varied workload for both public and private sector clients, helping to develop robust analysis and modelling outputs that inform important transport and infrastructure decisions.

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Preparing, checking and analysing datasets for use within transport models.
  • Analysing model outputs and interpreting results.
  • Supporting the preparation of technical papers, reports and client deliverables.
  • Working extensively with spreadsheets, databases and coding.
  • Assisting experienced modellers with a range of transport modelling projects.
  • Developing your knowledge of industry-standard modelling software, including VISUM and SATURN.
  • Applying analytical and problem-solving skills to real-world transport challenges.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality in line with established Quality Assurance procedures.

The role will also give you the opportunity to work on regional, national and international projects, while developing your technical skills and exposure to new and innovative applications of transport modelling.

About You

We''re looking for an enthusiastic and analytical individual who enjoys working with numbers, data and technology.

You should have:

  • A BSc in Mathematics or another strongly numerate discipline such as Economics, Physics or a relevant Engineering subject.
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability.
  • Good spreadsheet skills, particularly Excel.
  • Some experience or understanding of coding/programming.
  • A methodical and structured approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to produce clear, accurate and concise analysis and written reports.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a specialist technical environment.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous, although training will be provided:

  • Experience using Python or other programming languages.
  • An interest in transport economics.
  • Previous exposure to transport modelling or transport planning.
  • Experience with VISUM, SATURN or other modelling software.
  • An interest in developing project management skills.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would also be beneficial.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time position based in Leicester, with a flexible hybrid working arrangements. You''ll be expected to work from the Leicester office at least two days per week, providing an excellent balance between collaboration with the wider team and flexibility.
