Assistant SENDCo

Location: Hertfordshire
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 39 weeks per year

About the Role

A secondary school in Hertfordshire is looking to appoint an Assistant SENDCo to support the SENDCo in leading and developing SEND provision across the school.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEND professional looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students with special educational needs, working closely with staff, parents, carers and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the SENDCo in the day-to-day leadership and management of SEND provision.
  • Deputise for the SENDCo when required.
  • Coordinate provision for students with SEND and maintain accurate provision maps and student plans.
  • Support with EHCP processes, annual reviews and statutory requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate Exam Access Arrangements, including assessments, evidence gathering and relevant documentation.
  • Line manage and support LSAs and HLTAs, including appraisals and professional development.
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff around SEND strategies and inclusive practice.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, external agencies and other professionals.
  • Monitor the progress and attendance of students with SEND.
  • Support staff training and the development of SEND practice across the school.
  • Assist with referrals, transition arrangements and student support.
  • Deliver Functional Skills in Maths and English where required.

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience working with students with SEND.
  • Good knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes.
  • Knowledge of JCQ Exam Access Arrangements and relevant assessment procedures.
  • Experience of working within an educational setting.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Experience of line management or supporting the development of other staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents and external professionals.
  • A professional, positive and proactive approach.

An HLTA qualification, Level 5 Assistant SENCO qualification and/or Access Arrangements qualification (CPT3A) would be desirable.
