Assistant Quantity Surveyor

An excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join an established specialist contractor and develop their commercial career across some of London''s most high-profile construction and public realm projects.

OCS are currently working with a well-established specialist contractor delivering complex projects across hard landscaping, public realm, highways, groundworks, civil engineering and associated infrastructure.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of projects, they are looking to add an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to their commercial team.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone at the beginning of their QS career, with the business open to candidates who have either completed a Quantity Surveying placement year or have approximately one year of post-graduate experience.

The Role
Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and the wider commercial team, you will gain exposure to the full commercial lifecycle of construction projects while developing the skills required to progress towards running your own packages and projects. Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting Quantity Surveyors with the commercial management of projects
• Assisting with subcontractor procurement and package management
• Obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Preparing valuations and payment applications
• Assisting with cost reporting and forecasting
• Monitoring project expenditure
• Assisting with variations and change management
• Supporting subcontractor account management
• Reviewing project costs against budgets
• Assisting with monthly commercial reporting
• Supporting the preparation and agreement of final accounts
• Maintaining accurate commercial records
• Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and commercial teams
• Attending project and commercial meetings
• Learning and developing knowledge of construction contracts and commercial procedures

Ideally, you will have:

• A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
• A construction industry placement year or approximately 1 year of post-graduate QS experience
• Some exposure to commercial or quantity surveying functions
• Good numerical and analytical skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• A willingness to learn and develop
• A proactive approach to problem-solving
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team
• A genuine interest in progressing within Quantity Surveying
