Role: Assistant Quality Manager
Location: Bristol
Salary: Up to -50,000 depending on experience
My client well-established aerospace engineering business based in Bristol, looking for an experienced Assistant Quality Manager to join their team.
The role will involve leading a small team of Quality Inspectors and working closely with the Quality Manager to manage the day-to-day quality function.
This would suit someone with a background in quality engineering or quality management who has some supervisory experience and is looking for the next step in their career. You will need to be comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment, dealing with quality issues and finding practical solutions on the shop floor.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading and motivating a small team of Quality Inspectors
- Supporting the training and development of the team
- Managing the throughput of finished goods from a quality perspective
- Managing the day-to-day quality requirements of the sub-contract supplier base
- Supporting FMEA and FAIR activities
- Maintaining documentation and records relating to quality activities
- Programming CMMs
- Acting as the link between the Quality Inspectors and Quality Manager
- Investigating quality issues and providing practical solutions on the shop floor
- Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, route cards and process instructions
- Reviewing dimensions, tolerances and inspection requirements
- Preparing and maintaining reports in accordance with AS9102
Skills and experience:
- Experience in a quality engineering, quality inspection or quality management role
- Experience within aerospace or precision engineering
- Previous experience supervising or leading a small team, or looking to take the next step into a supervisory role
- Experience with CMM programming
- Good knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, dimensions and tolerances
- Experience with FMEA, FAIRs and AS9102
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to resolving quality issues
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across the business
- A relevant engineering or quality qualification such as City & Guilds, NVQ, HNC/HND, degree or equivalent
Beneficial but not essential:
- Experience programming Aberlink CMMs
- Additional quality-related qualifications
- Experience managing or developing a team
