The Role
As Assistant Manager, you will support the Site Manager in the day-to-day running of a busy retail operation, ensuring all operational, commercial and customer service standards are consistently achieved.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will act as the first point of contact for Duty Managers and colleagues, helping to maintain smooth operations while developing the skills required to progress into a Site Manager position.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the overall operation of the site, ensuring all daily tasks are completed efficiently.
- Leading, coaching and developing Duty Managers and colleagues to achieve high performance.
- Maintaining a safe, compliant and well-presented retail environment.
- Supporting recruitment activities, onboarding and team development.
- Ensuring effective rota planning and labour management in line with budgets.
- Managing customer queries, complaints and feedback professionally.
- Building strong working relationships across the wider business and communicating effectively with senior management.
- Monitoring operational performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Managing stock, ordering and waste control to maximise profitability.
- Promoting company values and maintaining exceptional customer service standards.
- Taking responsibility for Health & Safety compliance and operational procedures.
- Supporting the Site Manager and deputising in their absence when required.
The Person
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated retail leader who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous supervisory or management experience within retail, convenience, hospitality or a similar customer-focused environment.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience coaching and developing teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to build relationships at all levels.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Experience with rota planning, stock control and operational administration would be advantageous.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and decision making.
- A commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and compliance within a retail environment.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays where required.
- Ambition to progress into a Site Manager role.
