Assistant Headteacher – Complex Needs School

This exceptional complex needs school in South Birmingham is seeking an ambitious and dedicated Assistant Headteacher to join its senior leadership team.
This specialist school supports children and young people with a range of complex learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), severe and profound learning difficulties, communication needs and physical disabilities. The school is renowned for its nurturing ethos, exceptional facilities and commitment to delivering the very best outcomes for every pupil.
As Assistant Headteacher, you will play a key role in the strategic leadership of the school, supporting the Headteacher and wider leadership team to drive standards, develop staff and ensure outstanding provision across the school. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, support staff and families to ensure pupils receive a truly personalised educational experience.
This role would suit an experienced Assistant Headteacher, SENCO or middle leader looking to progress into senior leadership within a specialist setting.
The Role:

  • Support the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school
  • Drive improvements in teaching, learning and assessment across the provision
  • Lead and develop teams of teachers and support staff
  • Monitor pupil progress and ensure high-quality outcomes for learners with complex needs
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, safeguarding and continuous improvement
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, families and external agencies
  • Support curriculum development and personalised learning pathways
  • Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation and improvement planning
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Significant experience within a SEND or complex needs setting
  • Strong understanding of Autism, complex learning needs and specialist provision
  • Previous leadership experience as an Assistant Headteacher, SENCO, Phase Leader or equivalent
  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills
  • A commitment to achieving exceptional outcomes for children with SEND
