Assistant Headteacher (Teaching & Learning)

Integrity Education Solutions are supporting an independent SEN provider, who are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher (Teaching & Learning) within their specialist remote learning provision from January 2027.

This is a strategic educational leadership role responsible for driving high-quality teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment across a specialist online provision supporting pupils with complex and co-morbid needs, including neurodiversity and Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

Working closely with the Principal and wider SLT, the successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of the school's teaching and learning strategy, ensuring education is inclusive, ambitious, adaptive and responsive to individual starting points and needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for teaching, learning and curriculum, establishing consistently high expectations across the school.
• Develop and evaluate the school's Teaching & Learning strategy, ensuring it reflects the specialist context of online education.
• Provide strategic oversight of curriculum design, ensuring provision is broad, ambitious, appropriately sequenced and responsive to SEND, EHCP outcomes, prior learning and future aspirations.
• Lead quality assurance across teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment, using observations, work scrutiny, data and feedback to drive measurable improvement.
• Provide strategic leadership for assessment, progress and attainment, identifying gaps, underachievement and appropriate interventions.
• Lead and develop teaching staff through coaching, CPD, professional reflection and performance development, promoting evidence-informed practice.
• Champion inclusive teaching and effective strategies to improve pupil attendance, engagement, participation and outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with the SENCo, pastoral and clinical teams to ensure teaching and curriculum provision reflects pupils' wider needs.
• Provide strong leadership and direction to teaching and curriculum teams, contributing to whole-school strategic planning as a member of SLT.
• Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, maintaining high professional standards across teaching and learning.
• Support appropriate accreditation, qualifications and pathways to help pupils progress into further education, employment, training or other appropriate destinations.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced education leader with a strong track record in teaching, learning and SEND, alongside the ability to lead and develop teaching teams.

They should ideally have:

• QTS or QTLS, with recent proven experience as an outstanding teacher.
• Significant teaching and/or pastoral leadership experience within mainstream or SEND education.
• Strong experience supporting neurodiverse pupils, including ASC and/or SEMH, with an understanding of the impact on communication, learning and behaviour.
• Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum, Key Stage requirements and SEND Code of Practice.
• Experience of school improvement, quality assurance, assessment and improving learning outcomes.
• Experience contributing to EHCP Annual Reviews and knowledge of relevant SEND legislation and best practice.
• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
• Proficient IT skills and the ability to work effectively within an online learning environment.
• A calm, resilient and solutions-focused approach when supporting pupils with complex needs and barriers to learning.
• A clear commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and the welfare of children and young people.
• SEND qualifications or relevant training would be desirable.
