We are looking for an experienced Assistant Engineering Manager to join a busy food manufacturing site in Redditch.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Engineering Team Leader, Engineering Supervisor or Senior Engineer looking to take the next step into a management position, or an existing Assistant Engineering Manager looking for a new challenge.
Working closely with the Site Engineering Manager, you will help lead the engineering function, ensuring the site’s production equipment remains safe, reliable and efficient while supporting the development of the engineering team.
The Role As Assistant Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in managing day-to-day engineering activities across a high-volume food manufacturing environment.
You will be responsible for supporting the engineering team, driving maintenance performance and ensuring planned and reactive maintenance activities are completed effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Site Engineering Manager in the day-to-day management of the engineering function.
- Lead and supervise engineering teams, including shift engineers and engineering team leaders.
- Ensure planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules are delivered effectively and on time.
- Drive improvements in equipment reliability, availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Support the diagnosis and resolution of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults.
- Monitor engineering performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure engineering standards, health & safety procedures and site compliance requirements are maintained.
- Help manage engineering projects, contractors and improvement works where required.
- Work closely with Production to minimise downtime and maximise manufacturing efficiency.
- Support the development, coaching and mentoring of engineers and technicians.
- Assist with the training and development of apprentices and future engineering talent.
- Promote a proactive engineering culture focused on preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical support and leadership during breakdowns and other engineering issues.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience within a food manufacturing, FMCG or high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading, supervising or managing engineering teams.
- A strong understanding of PPM and preventative maintenance strategies.
- Good mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge.
- Experience troubleshooting production machinery and reducing downtime.
- An understanding of OEE, equipment reliability and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and people-management skills.
- The ability to work closely with Production and other departments to achieve site targets.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and engineering improvement.
- Experience developing engineers, technicians or apprentices would be highly advantageous.
- £55,000 salary
- Monday to Friday, days-based position
