We are seeking a motivated and capable Assistant Engineer with 2-4 years of post-graduate experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be confident delivering small-scale schemes with minimal supervision and have a practical understanding of scheme design and delivery. This is a hands-on role requiring CAD proficiency and experience managing minor works from inception through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver small engineering schemes independently or with minimal oversight.
- Prepare and develop design drawings, schedules, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD.
- Lead on the design and delivery of:
- Marking and lining schemes
- Traffic signing schemes
- Other minor highway improvement schemes.
- Undertake site visits, surveys, and assessments as required.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout the scheme lifecycle.
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, work programmes, and progress reports.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, safety regulations, and local authority guidelines.
- Support public consultation activities and respond to customer/stakeholder queries where necessary.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of delivery processes and standards.
Essential:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- 2-4 years of relevant post-graduate experience in engineering project delivery.
- Proven ability to manage and deliver small schemes independently.
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
- Good knowledge of traffic signs, road markings, and highway design principles.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external partners.
- Working knowledge of TSRGD and relevant design standards (e.g., DMRB, Manual for Streets).
- Experience with traffic regulation orders, safety audits, or construction supervision.
- Familiarity with GIS or other design/visualisation tools.
