Responsibilities
The Assistant Accountant - Operating Costs and Overheads role is a pivotal position within the finance team, focused on managing and reporting the company''s operating costs and overheads. Based in London and reporting to the Finance Manager, this role offers the opportunity to work closely with various departments across the business, contributing to the accuracy and insightfulness of financial reporting.Responsibilities include:Take ownership of key cost areas such as marketing, travel and entertainment, recruitment, legal, professional fees, and IT.Play a central part in the month-end reporting process, identifying risks and opportunities, and communicating these to the wider finance team.Prepare and distribute cost reports that provide meaningful analysis and support decision-making across the business.Collaborate with Sedgwick''s offshore service provider to ensure timely and accurate processing of balance sheet reconciliations, journal postings, and ad-hoc reclassifications.Manage accruals and prepayment schedules; maintain robust financial controls and recommend process improvements where needed.Work in a fast-paced, private equity-backed business environment with exposure to the insurance services sector.Minimum of two days per week in the London office; occasional travel to other Sedgwick locations.
Qualifications and Skills
Finance experience : Knowledge and hands-on experience in month-end processes, journal posting, and balance sheet reconciliations.Professional ambition : Desire to start or continue development towards a professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).System knowledge : Proficient in Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP). Familiarity with SAP Hana is desirable.Communication skills : Ability to tailor communication across different stakeholder levels.Initiative and independence : Self-starter who can work autonomously and seeks continuous improvement.Curiosity and enthusiasm : Natural interest in understanding the business and making the role their own.Time management : Strong ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
