We''re recruiting an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join a growing and commercially focused finance team in Birmingham city centre. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with operational stakeholders, influencing business decisions and adding genuine value beyond the month-end process.

The role offers exposure across finance, operations and commercial decision-making, making it an ideal next step for somebody looking to develop towards a Finance Business Partner, Commercial Finance Analyst or Finance Manager position.

The Opportunity

You''ll work closely with senior finance leaders and operational teams, helping to turn financial data into meaningful business insight. This role goes beyond producing reports; you''ll be helping stakeholders understand performance, identify opportunities, challenge assumptions and make informed commercial decisions. 

Alongside the day-to-day finance responsibilities, you''ll have the opportunity to get involved in projects, process improvements, systems enhancements and wider business initiatives, giving you excellent exposure and progression opportunities. 

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with monthly management accounts and financial reporting
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
• Partner with operational and non-finance stakeholders across the business
• Provide meaningful financial insight and commentary to support decision-making
• Monitor cash flow, working capital and financial performance
• Support balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
• Analyse business performance, highlighting risks and opportunities
• Assist with project work, process improvements and systems enhancements
• Build strong relationships across the business and become a trusted finance contact
• Help drive continuous improvements within finance processes and reporting

About You

• Studying towards ACCA, CIMA or AAT, or qualified by experience
• Strong accounting, reconciliation and reporting experience
• Confident Excel user with strong analytical skills
• Commercially minded with a genuine interest in business performance
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders
• Proactive, inquisitive and keen to add value
