Architectural Technologist
An established and design-led Architectural & Masterplanning practice is looking to appoint an experienced Architectural Technologist to join its 16-strong studio in Leeds City Centre.
Established almost 20 years ago and led by hands-on Directors with backgrounds in some of the UK’s larger commercial practices, the business has successfully created the best of both worlds – the expertise and project capability of a larger practice, combined with the autonomy, accessibility and collaborative culture of a smaller studio.
The practice has an excellent portfolio of work spanning Commercial, Retail, Offices, Education and Residential, alongside bespoke new-build developments, conversions, refurbishments and interior projects.
With a healthy workload and a number of projects progressing through technical and delivery stages, they are now looking for an experienced Technologist who can hit the ground running, work independently and deliver high-quality technical information at pace.
The Role
This is very much a hands-on technical delivery position and would suit an Architectural Technologist with approximately 3–5+ years’ professional experience who is comfortable taking responsibility for their own workload and working with minimal supervision.
You will join a close-knit architectural and technical team, contributing to the coordination and delivery of several live projects while working closely with Architects, consultants, contractors and clients.
Responsibilities will include:
- Producing and coordinating detailed technical drawing packages.
- Taking ownership of packages and projects through the technical and construction stages.
- Developing robust construction details and specifications.
- Coordinating information from external consultants and the wider design team.
- Working independently to deadlines within a busy, fast-moving project environment.
- Identifying and resolving technical and coordination issues proactively.
- Supporting projects through construction and responding to technical queries from site.
- Ensuring drawing and model information is accurate, coordinated and issued to programme.
What We're Looking For
The successful Architectural Technologist will ideally have:
- A minimum of approximately 3–5 years’ UK professional experience, although more experienced candidates are equally encouraged to apply.
- Strong and demonstrable Autodesk Revit capability – you should be comfortable using Revit independently within a live project environment.
- Good technical knowledge with a strong understanding of construction detailing, materials and Building Regulations.
- Experience producing comprehensive technical and construction drawing packages.
- The confidence and ability to work autonomously, prioritise workload and deliver information at pace.
- Previous experience coordinating with consultants and other construction professionals.
- Experience working within a collaborative BIM environment.
- Previous job-running and/or site delivery experience would be highly advantageous.
- CIAT accreditation or progress towards professional membership would be welcomed but is not essential.
The practice is predominantly Revit-based, although there may be a requirement to work in AutoCAD during the initial few months, so previous AutoCAD experience would be beneficial.
The Practice
This is an excellent opportunity to join one of Leeds' established independent architectural practices at a particularly busy period of growth and project delivery.
You'll work closely with experienced Directors and senior colleagues, with plenty of opportunity to take ownership rather than simply operating as part of a large production team.
The studio has a modern, collaborative culture and offers flexibility around working hours to accommodate childcare and individual circumstances. Collaboration remains central to how the practice operates, so this opportunity will particularly suit somebody who enjoys being part of a studio-based team.
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum, dependent upon experience, plus benefits.
